StopFileLockers.com is an organisation run by Robert King, the head of King Adult Film Industries, who tries to bring down online file sharing lockers that harbour illegal and pirated media and copyrighted material and offer memberships to download them quicker. For awhile now I’ve been checking up with this website every now and then but however even though the cause is decent, the one thing that irks me is that the effort they’re putting in might just be a complete waste of time and money. The reason behind this is because of one factor which is shared amongst multiple different groups like Anonymous and sites like file lockers, the Hydra Effect. The Hydra Effect (Named after a Serpent in Greek Mythology that can grow multiple heads after a couple of its heads are cut off.) is basically when they cut funding to one file locker causing it to shutdown, another one or two more file lockers will take its place. So no matter what they do to take down one site. All that time and effort would’ve gone in vain due to another one filling in that void it leaves behind. This is usually the main reasons behind why Anonymous can’t be stopped or how government porn filters fail in the first few minutes. It’s because of the hydra Effect and the only way for StopFileLockers.com to succeed in their goal is to basically shut down all websites that are used for transferring currency like PayPal and we all know that’ll cause chaos amongst the population. Also I’d like to add that the hypocrisy and irony about this campaign is that it’s funded by a corporate big shot who owns a few porn tube websites which practically do what these file lockers do by sharing copy righted videos and in some cases profiting off the memberships to see those videos for free illegally and by individual users on the site that might’ve bought the video and put it online for everyone to see and download via third party software.
So there, the reason why I believe they’re a lost cause and a bunch of hypocrites. I thank you for reading my view on this matter. So til next time, this Big R signing off.
